Sun is a kind and caring teacher who is brilliant at bringing out the hidden musical talents of her students. She is very encouraging and supportive with over 30 years of music experience that she can use to assist and guide her students to be the best that they can be.
Sun composers her own music in both Korean and English. She has her own musical repertoire that is able to capture your heart and ears, and hold your soul suspended in the desire for more.
Sun made debut performing Mozart Violin Concerto with Green Peace Chamber Orchestra with conductor Kenneth Kiesler in South Korea. She was selected from Korean National Institute of Arts for gifted children and Yae-Won School of Arts, studying with Prof. Nam-Yun Kim. She won silver medal at the Jo-Seon Newspaper Music Competition.
Sun and her family immigrated to Australia in 1995. She made debut performing Sibelius Violin Concerto with Sydney Symphony Orchestra with conductor John Harding. She was invited to record for ABC Classical FM and 2MBS FM. She won 1st Prize at the Queensland Concerto Competition performing Prokofiev Violin Concerto No.2 with Queensland Youth Orchestra. And she won Overall Winner Prize at the Ku-Ring-Gai Concerto Competition, performing Sibelius Violin Concerto with Ku-Ring-Gai Philharmonic Orchestra. She won 2nd Prize at International Music Competition in Gisborne, New Zealand. She had masterclasses with Lord Yehudi Menuhin and James Buswell. She was awarded Big Brother Movement Award.
In 2004, Sun graduated with four-year full scholarships and with first class honours of her studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London. During her studies, she won David Martin/Florence Hooten Prize and Alfred J. Waley Violin Prize. And Dominions Fellowship, MacGibbon Prize, Mosco Carner Prize and Rio Tinto Award. She was invited to perform Mendelssohn violin concerto with Royal Academy Concert Orchestra and she was the concertmaster of the orchestra for many occasions. She studied with Mateja Marinkovic.
Sun was invited to perform Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto and Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with Horsham Symphony Orchestra with conductor Benjamin Pope. She was invited to participate from Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival in Finland twice and Lausanne Academy of Music Summer Masterclass twice with Pierre Amoyal and Bruno Canino and Pavel Gililov.
In 2006, Sun graduated with Masters of Music from University of Sydney, studying with Goetz Richter. During her study, she was leading Early Music Ensemble with Baroque violin.
In 2007, Sun was invited to perform a concerto movement written for her by Steven Termini. She performed it with St.Petersburg Accademia Capella Orchestra at Capella, St.Petursburg. And she gave recitals in Moscow and St.Petursburg in Russia. And she gave premiere of Violin Sonata No.1 and Violin Sonata No.2 written for her by Steven Termini in London and Sydney.
In 2007, Sun was invited to participate in Verbier UBS Music Festival Orchestra and was touring North America and Europe with Charles Dutoit and Martha Argerich.
In 2008, Sun was invited to study at the International Menuhin Academy in Switzerland. She studied solo violin and string quartet with Oleg Kaskiv, Alberto Lysy, Michaela Martin, Philippe Graffin, Christopher Richter, Nobuko Imai, Jeremy Menuhin and many more.
In 2009, Sun has won major scholarship from Accademia Musicale Chigiana to study with Baroque Violinist, Maestro Giuliano Carmignola in Siena, Italy.
In 2009, Sun won full-time position of 2nd Concertmaster of Symphony Orchestra St.Gallen in Switzerland. During this period, she was invited to perform as a soloist for Mozart Sinfonia Concertante. And she performed chamber music with principle musicians of her orchestra. In 2011, Sun was invited to perform as a soloist with Giocosa Ensemble Switzerland. She performed Bach Concerto for Violin and Oboe and Summer by Vivaldi. In 2012, she graduated from Luzern University of Applied Sciences and Arts, studying with Giuliano Carmignola. In June 2013, she has resigned from the orchestra and now freelancing as a soloist and chamber musician.
In 2011 and 2013, Sun was invited as one of three judges for Kendall National Violin Competition in Australia.
Apart from solo playing, Sun has passion for conducting, which she made debut with Sydney Conservatorium Ensemble and dedicate her free time for Roh Duo and Roh Piano Trio based in Sydney with her pianist brother Michael Roh. And she was invited to compose for a film, Narrow Path directed by Dalanglin Dkhar.
